Memorial Day Weekend

A long weekend was long over due... Mike and I finally had a chance to dedicate some time to yard work!
On saturday we went to wisconsin to visit Mike's parents and bring some furniture up that we were holding on to for them...
We got back a little late to start any projects... so Sunday we pulled out the last 2MONSTER Juniper bushes and stumps and sodded the area.
Sunday night we went to see Indiana Jones... slightly disappointing.. But some great scenes.
Monday was for landscaping... lots of heavy duty work... and we did not get as far as we planned... so we'll keep piecing at it all week as we have time. Then the front will be officially done... (As done as it will get this year)

Last night it was like 80 and muggy we had fans in the windows... Now I am FREEEEZZZZING...

Lemon Tricks

Squeeze fresh lemons into your drinking water...
1. It helps to neutralize your stomach acids and PH levels
2. It helps to clense and detoxify your liver!

Breathe Deep... Often!

Cancer cannot thrive in an oxygen-rich environment. Maybe another great reason for cardio work-outs!

Ask and you shall receive...

"If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him."
James 1:5
...One of my very favorites, just thought I'd share!

Why do I complicate things?

For the last 2 years I have had a mirror sitting on the vanity... I needed to switch the wire so it would hang horizontally instead of vertically...
Why I put it off? I don't know...I didn't think I would find a drill bit small enough... once I get involved I realize the holes are pre drilled to fit the screws that are already there.
The whole thing took about 5 minutes. Genius.

We're all Connected

Yesterday when I got home from working... as I pulled into the driveway I noticed a couple parked in ther car right in front of the house..
I thought it a bit peculiar, but I went on about my busness, unloading some of my supplies and garbage from the day so I could go in and say hi to Mike. Then they backed up to the end of the drive and the guy said "pardon me, but I think my mother used to own this house"... so I said did she have a pink oven? And he said "yes" so I said, then this was her house! I invited them to take a look around... and they gladly accecpted. We chatted a bit... talked about where they went to school etc... also turns out that they were both seperately widowed high school sweethearts that just met up again recently but live in 2 seperate states. I don't know it's crazy sometimes when you are teminded how small of a world it is!
Anyway when they left... I said to Mike... "well we just met someone who we never thought we'd meet" That's because this home has been in Mike's family's hands since they bought it from that family who only lived here for 3-5 yrs.

Does anyone have a "small world" story to share?

I have a couple more...
When I was in High School, I went to Breckenridge with My cousin Anne. We ran into 2 of my class mates on the chair lift.
When I was a flight attendant on seperate flights I had a neighbor, my aunt, and an old boss. (Maybe not that random, but it feels like it when it happens)

Shame on the Farting Cows!

I heard a news brief on the radio this morning.... There is a European community that is now taxing farmers for methane produced by cow and sheep flatulence. New Zealand caught wind and is seriously considering doing the same...
I wonder...
How exactly do they propose the farmers are to stop their livestock from farting?

Wild.

The Tooth Fairy is Mad at Me!

Yesterday I finally got up the nerve to call the dentist about a tooth that has been bothering me for MONTHS! Why I put it off? Becasue I was scared ... it was a tooth he already filled so I knew there was going to be more to it.
Well, Luck me thay had an appointment available today >( Well I took it... got my teeth cleaned, no new cavities... (I'm a good flosser)
Bad news is they said that my sensitive tooth is likely going to need more work... a Root Canal... GRRR! That is very scary to me!!
Here's the reason why... hopefully if anyone is reading they will take a tip. Because I brush too hard with not soft enough bristles I have worn away my enamel and gum to expose the nerve. I wish I knew this would happen, when I was younger I think I was told that meduim to hard bristles were good for strengthing the gums... now they say use the softest bristles you can find combined with flossing. Infact she said you would be better using a wash cloth and floss rather than too stiff of bristles.
So... do yourself a favor and throw away any non-soft tooth brushes! In the mean time, my mom has an herbal remedy that may help to grow my gums back... hope it works!

Our Weekend...

It was a great weekend! After my 2+ hour drive (Which I enjoyed... I decided to spend the time going around the Chicago suburbs instead of through them it would've taken the same time either way) home from working in West Dundee on friday, Mike and I went out for pizza... a delicious way to catch up on our day/week.
Saturday, I really enjoyed the session with Earl Creps, a very forward thinking man! I pray that our church family will embrace change and open our hearts immeasurably to the world around us!
Since it was cold and rainy, we decided it would be a movie night... so we went to Jo-Ann's so I could get the right size knitting needles for my new project and Best Buy to "even out" our shopping adventure by looking around... nothing there is even close to the $5 knitting needle price range. Sorry Mike... someday...
We went to Harrisons for a sandwich... always a hit... then to Block Buster...
We rented "no Country for old men" I had no idea what we were getting into... I just thought I heard someone say ti was a good movie... Yikes... now I wish I knew where I heard that.
Other than them doing a great job capturing the year 1980 in Texas... it was a slow, anti-climactical, film. Why did the bad guy psycho get to live and why did the main character have to die an hour before it was over? Maybe I missed something?
Anyway after service on sunday We FINALLY pulled out the 4 stumps under the living room window... we tried last spring and got beaten down by a stubborn tap root last spring were blessed... the other 3 were a piece of cake! Now we just have to do some landscape.
The rest of the afternoon, I continued yard work while Mike tutored one of our buddies from Crew. Then we had Subs and went to group.
In my mind a great weekend... we had quality time with eachother and God. We got some projects done, but had some time to relax. And the weather was cooperative!

Spring Cleaning...

Yesterday I finally had a chance to dive into several of the areas around the house that have been driving me nuts! ... and it felt great!
I had big plans for the day... first thing when I got up in the morning I added a coat of patch to the ceiling at the top of the stairs. Then I got dressed and ran a couple errands before I could dive into the rest!
When I got back I dove in potting flowers, weeding gardens, clearing book shelves filled with junk, cleaning out closets, eliminating boxes and piles in the garage... then a trip to good will and a shelter to make donations... and a trip to the bank to cash in all the change I found!
Days like that are great... I think after hibernating all winter I just get tired of watching everything pile up and the nice weather is very motivating... not to mention FINALLY having a day to dig in...

So... I have 2 questions about spring cleaning...

1. How is it that some days you can motor and get [what feels like] the work of 4 people done and on other days you just run around and have nothing to show for your time?

2. How do we accumulate so much stuff? What's a good tip for simplification?
